The Leatherman Crunch is named after Timothy Leatherman’s first working prototype, “Mr. Crunch” because they share in common the vice grips functionality. The original “Mr. Crunch” also had twin plier jaws to work as regular pliers but with needlenose jaws that could be pulled out when needed. Ultimately the prototype was slimmed down for the first production run, but the pocket vice grip multi tool, and the name of the tool that started it all, lives on with the production Crunch.
